Releasing Rubber Track on a Mini Excavator

The main advantage of mini excavator tracks is their compact sizes. They can fit in almost all places, especially in cramped situations. Rubber tracks are often fitted to mini excavator to make it run smoothly. Many a times, it becomes difficult to release the rubber tracks skid steer from a mini excavator. Here are some tips that you can follow to make the process easy:

  1. Use the mini excavators bucket to lift the side which needs replacing or removing of tracks. Ask someone to place blocks beneath the machines undercarriage. In doing so, you support the excavator with the blocks, when it is let down. Thus, the track will leave off the ground.
  2. Thereafter, remove grease fittings near track idler. There will be a large wheel in each end of the track. One of them will be the smooth one, called the track idler. Use a wrench and twist the grease fitting in counter-clockwise direction till it gets removed completely.
  3. Use a pry bar to push the track idler to the tracks center. Or even a bucket of the machine will do. When you keep pushing you will notice grease coming out. Keep pushing till the time all grease has been removed. When all grease will get removed the track will start to loosen.
  4. Replace the old track with the new one.
  5. Re-insert grease and tighten the fitting using a wrench.
  6. Apply grease into fittings and push the idler outwards. Add adequate pressure to tighten the new track to the tee.
  7. After that, you need to lift the machine and remove all the wooden blocks. Take the excavator down and drive it back and forth. In case, the track seems sag after moving, all a little bit of more grease till you are satisfied.

Certainly, this process will help you in removing tracks from excavators.

You can easily ensure that the vehicle runs for a longer time, without being interrupted. However, there are different types of rubber tracks to be had. Each variety of rubber tracks for excavators are fit for particular types of excavators or mini excavators. Three of the basic types have been mentioned below:

  1. Bolt-on Pads: These are the easiest type of rubber tracks. They can be directly fitted to the existing steel grouser plates. The plates must be drilled at the right places before starting the fitting work. All you need to do is push the tracks into the drilled holes. Even, a neophyte can fit these into the right place.
  2. Clip-on Pads: These pads are not drilled from before. A certain type of clip is used to tighten the fixings on the ends of the grouser plates.
  3. Chain-on Pads: Here, you would need to use a chain. Bolt directly to the chain. There is no need for grouser plate. These are mainly utilized for machines, needed to work on sealed surfaces.

Apart from these three types of rubber pads, you would get many others in the market. However, these are the long-established types that have been in use since ages.
